UK GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN GHANA.
UK’s Minister for Africa, Hon Harriet Baldwin announced on Tuesday, 26 February,2019 the funding support on infrastructure projects at the end of the second UK-Ghana Business Council (UKGBC) Meetings held in London, UK, co-chaired by the vice president of Ghana Mahamadu Bawumia.
The UK Government has pledged funding support for three major infrastructure projects in Ghana this year.
An 80 million Euro support for the modernization of Kumasi Central Market, will see upgrades of its electrical networks, water supplies, generators, fire detection systems and public transport.
A $50m facility will also be used for the construction of a new International Terminal building for the Tamale Airport to improve tourist access and promote economic growth as well as benefiting Hajj pilgrims with a new multi-purpose facility.
As well, a UK Export Finance guarantee of a 20 million euro loan will support every aspect of the Bekwai hospital’s construction including an Emergency Department, a Maternity Ward, Operating Theatre and provision of 120 new beds.
